Description: A huge golden dragon perches atop a grassy limestone cliff, guarding the castle fortress below. The wind-tossed sea mirrors the colors of the brooding stormy sky, but the dragon's attention has been caught by an intruder...do you have the courage to meet his challenging stare? An intricate Celtic-inspired knotwork border frames the design. Background Information: I've always wanted to design a "complete" dragon scene... a piece that's based on the styles of some of the great childrens' book illustrators of the turn of the century. I wanted to convey not only a story, but the mood and excitement of the moment as well. The famous white cliffs of Dover and the waters of the English channel were partial inspiration for the setting...the rest came from an imagination fed on lots of dragon fantasy novels... including those in The Earthsea Trilogy by Ursula K. LeGuin.
Stitching Comments: Because this design is mostly solid stitching, it is quite an investment in time. However, there are no specialty stitches: it is all cross stitch, with, of course, lots of fractional stitches and blended floss colors. A bit of pearl blending filament added to the lightest gold shades of the dragon would add even more drama to the design. Specialty Stitches: none. Important Tips: Charting Technique, Organizing Floss
